Barry Sanders (born July 16, 1968 in Wichita) is a former American football player who played for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) throughout his career. He retired when he was within striking distance of the record for most rushing yards in his career, placing him third all-time behind Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton, without ever having played in a Super Bowl. Sanders is a member of the Hall of Fame at both college and professional levels. He is regarded as one of the best running backs of all time.
