"Ritratto" by Osvaldo Piraccini.
Features:
- Technique: Oil on canvas
- Size: 60x40 cm
Osvaldo Piraccini first started painting with Giovanni Cappelli and then with Alberto Sughi: in Cesena, the most important members of the postwar period - together with Luciano Caldari - of a figurative and neorealist art that was not, however, characterized by precise, binding adherence to the ideological and political indications of the left of the time. He was also influenced by Marcello Muccini - co-founder of the G.A.S. (Social Art Group) Roman artistic groups and Gruppo del Portonaccio, friend of Alberto Sughi and frequent visitor to Cesena and Romagna – with whom he established a friendship in Florence. In the 1950s, the social fingerprint of Piraccini's works already possessed those largely existentialistic connotations that would characterize his future pieces: human larvae diluted in often rainy surroundings and landscapes in which the natural or architectural aspects lack precise focus, instead becoming muddled in a magma of sad colors scarcely illuminated by shards of weak light. It is the so-called "grey painting" period: rarefied, essential and chromatically elegant.
