Pelé was a Brazilian professional footballer who is recognized by Guinness World Records with the most goals scored of all time with 1,279 in 1,363 games for both club and country, including friendlies. 

In 1958, Pele helped Brazil win their first World Cup, a championship they had never won before. He was a hero. The team carried him off the field on their shoulders; the crowd cheering. Pele went on to play for Brazil in another three World Cups.
