Giancarlo Antognoni is an Italian sports manager and former footballer, who played as a midfielder. He was world champion with the Italian national team in 1982. Stalwart and captain of Fiorentina in the 70s and 80s, where he spent his entire professional career in Italy. Out of the Fiorentina players he holds the record for appearances in all competitions, with 429 matches, and in Serie A, with 341 matches. With 73 games for Italy, he is also the Fiorentina player with the most caps for the national team. In 2018 he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame in the Italian Veteran category.
