Dame Judith Olivia Dench (born December 9, 1934) is a British actress.

She is recognized as one of the leading performers in English theater. She rose to international fame for her role as M in the James Bond film series starting with GoldenEye (1995) and making her last appearance in the saga in Spectre (2015). In 1998 she received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the film Mrs. Brown and in 1999 she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Shakespeare in Love. Other roles that she received nominations for include Chocolat (2000), Iris (2001), Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005), Diary of a Scandal (2006), and Philomena (2013).

Dench has received many nominations for her acting in theater, film and television. Her accolades include 11 BAFTA Awards, 8 Olivier Awards, 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards, 2 Golden Globes and a Tony Award. In June 2011, she received a fellowship from the British Film Institute (BFI). She is also a member of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
