The Prize

Postcard of the book "I Costi delle Olimpiadi" signed by Italian former sprinter Pietro Paolo Mennea.

Olympic champion of the 200-meter flat in Moscow 1980, he was the world record holder in the discipline from 1979 to 1996 with a time of 19"72, which is still the European record. From 1979 to 2018, he also held the Italian 100-meter flat record with a time of 10"01 (European record up to 1984).

Nicknamed The Arrow from the South, he is the only 1200 runner in history to have qualified for four consecutive Olympic finals (from 1972 to 1984). He was awarded the Olympic order in 1997 and inducted into the FIDAL Hall of Fame.
