The Walled Off Hotel is a boutique hotel designed by anonymous London-based artist Banksy alongside other creatives. It is located in Bethlehem, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Ben Gurion Airport. Established in March 2017, and initially set out to only be a temporary exhibition, the hotel has since attracted nearly 140,000 visitors, thanks in part to its location opposite the portion of the Israeli West Bank Barrier separating Bethlehem from the holy site of Rachel's Tomb. The hotel is considered to be a key piece of social commentary on the Palestinians affected by the Israeli-Palestine Conflict and billed as having "the worst view of any hotel in the world"
About the artist
Banksy is the most sought after and most collected street artist. Banksy is known for urban interventions that demonstrate irreverent wit and scathing political comment. While maintaining his anonymous identity, the artist has altered street signs, illegally printed his own currency and illegally hung his work in the Louvre and the Museum of Modern Art. He often uses spray paint and stencil in his critiques of consumerism, political authority, terrorism and the state of art and its exhibition. His street art, installations and studio-produced works have been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, London, Bethlehem and beyond. His art has been the subject of widespread interest on the secondary market.
