Gianfranco Zola (Oliena, July 5 1966) is a football coach and former Italian footballer who played in an attacking role.

Considered one of the greatest Italian footballers of the 1990s and 2000s, in 1994 Zola was world runner up with the Italy team, with which he totaled 35 appearances and 10 goals. In 2004 he received an OBE for his service to sport during his time at Chelsea.

He was nominated three times for the Ballon d'Or, placing 6th in 1995.

A right-footed playmaker, capable of playing the role of attacking midfielder, second striker or even winger, he stood out for his dribbling skills and providing assists for his teammates. A player with great technique, speed, vision of the game and an eye for goals, Zola also made a name for himself for his excellent set pieces: he achieved 20 goals from free-kicks, making him the fifth best in the history of Serie A.
