Harold Riley attended Salford Grammar School and in 1951 won a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London. He won scholarships to Italy and Spain before returning to Salford, where he has lived ever since. His deep affection for his home town cemented a friendship with L.S. Lowry, which began when Riley was a student.
Riley’s commissioned painted portraits include Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Pope John XIII, US Presidents John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford and Nelson Mandela. Riley is famous worldwide for his sporting pictures, particularly of golf and football. His football paintings have centred largely around his links with Manchester United with whom he played as a junior.
We are in a very privileged position to be able to offer you one of Harold's very rare limited edition prints signed not only by the artist, but Sir Matt Busby CBE himself. Sir Matt Busby regarded as the founding father of Manchester United, a hero among the club's supporters for transforming the Old Trafford side into champions of Europe and for the birth of the Busby Babes.
Pulled from the Munich wreckage 1958, with his life and legacy hanging in the balance. However, the Scot's return to health saw him also return to the dugout to change the face of Manchester United, forever.
A real collector’s item with a certificate of authenticity signed by the two Legends.
