DESCRIPTION OF ARTWORK:
In this picture the artist painted the mirrored wall of an immense skyscraper from above. Its glass panels reflect big grey-blue clouds situated below it, beyond which the earth is visible. In several parts of the wall sections of glass are missing, and from the openings knotted sheets are dangling in the void. A red sheet comes out of a panel in the foreground; knotted together with others it forms one of the ropes lowered into the precipice. This creates a sense of vertigo that gives the title of the picture: it feels as if our head is protruding from the same panel. What are those knotted sheets for? To escape from the building or to climb up its wall? What does this very high, endless skyscraper represent? The various elements of this painting symbolise fear, courage, strength, dangers to face and goals to achieve; it is up to the observer to interpret them, based on their feelings and the path that they are following in life.
