Born in Piacenza in 1912, Cassinari was one of the leading exponents of the Corrente group, founded in 1938 with Treccani, Morlotti, Guttuso, Birolli and De Grada.
His art is of expressionist matrix, with Cubist influences. It is sometimes aggressive, with strong political and social messages, in contrast with the Italian Twentieth Century. He lived for a while in Antibes, during which time he was in direct contact with the work of Picasso and also knew Chagall, Matisse and Gide. He continued his work, utilizing a new compositional rigor of emotional intensity that also characterizes his first paintings.
Cassinari is popular with both the public and critics, so much that he lives his life traveling to exhibit his works in countless Italian cities, museums and galleries (Venice, Piacenza, Florence, Milan, Rome, Palermo, Turin, Brescia etc.) and foreign (Paris, Lausanne, New York, London, Monaco, Berlin, Caracas, Buenos Aires etc.); he has been the main feature of many major contemporary art exhibitions (Venice Biennale, Rome Quadrennial etc.) and has beenawarded several Prizes (Littoriali Prize, Bergamo Prize, Alessandria City Prize, Italian Painting Grand Prix etc.).
