Born in Catania in 1962, Giovanna Mancuso graduated from the Istituto d'Arte of Catania, collaborating with Nino Mustica. In 1986 she continued her studies at the DAMS of Bologna, and in 1988 she participated in the "Biennale Giovani Bologna." Since then, she actively shows her works in exhibitions all over the country, and also abroad, exhibiting at "Japanese Garden" in Catania, " MarteLive Biennale "in Rome,"International Mail Art projects" between Brazil, Italy, Spain and Portugal, and "Verba Volant, Art Manent," as well as "Art Takes Times Square "and "Creative Rising Exhibition" in New York.
Continuing the search for different forms of expression, the artist came to the study of Zen and oriental Shodo calligraphy. Oriental calligraphy, intimately linked to painting, is a real artform and a practice that needs constant exercise to avoid blemishes.
Here, the sign is swelling, black lines, soft, sharp, energetic, becoming visual poetry in an order of composition from which ratios of solids and voids emerge. One perceives a rhythm, a flow of gestures, a variability of force. A free private alphabet of meaning that stands on the canvas and supports a transitional musicality that becomes lyricism.
