About the artist
Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot (January 14, 1841 – March 2, 1895) was a French painter and a member of the circle of painters in Paris who became known as the Impressionists. It is important to note that Morisot, along with Mary Cassat, Eva Gonzalès and Marie Bracquemond, was one of the few Impressionist women painters. This acquires even greater relevance in view of the fact that women played such a subordinate role in the society of the time that painting was considered an exclusively male practice.
