A portrait of the insurgent sub commander Marcos, a legendary figure and spokesman for the EZLN Zapatista Liberation Army.
In January 1994, a group of indios from the state of Chiapas with their faces covered took up arms and control of some municipalities in the indigenous state of Chiapas. They were fighting for better living conditions for indigenous peoples, democracy and dignity for all. Politically aligned against neo-liberalism and the NAFTA agreements and violently repressed by the army, over the years they have achieved important negotiations with the Mexican government and agreements to recognize the needs of the indigenous Mexican people.
