Michele Cascella was an Italian artist known for his impressionistic landscape paintings. Inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh, Raoul Dufy, and Maurice Utrillo, the artist used watercolor and pastels to convey the vibrant hues and abundant flora of the Abruzzi region of Italy.
Born on September 7, 1892 in Ortona a Mare, Italy, Cascella was taught drawing and printmaking techniques by his father, painter and graphic artist Basilio Cascella. He held his first exhibition when he was still in his teens.
Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels, among others.
