Agostino Bonalumi was a self-taught Italian abstract artist known for his leading role in the Post-War avant-garde. He began to exhibit his works from a very young age.
In 1958 the Bonalumi, Castellani and Manzoni Group was formed and set up their first exhibition at the Galleria Pater in Milan, followed by other exhibitions in Milan as well as Rome and Lausanne.
In 1966 Bonalumi began a collaboration with Galleria del Naviglio in Milan that was to last many years. The Gallery became Bonalumi's sole representative and it published an exhaustive monography of the artist in 1973, for Edizioni del Naviglio, edited by Gillo Dorfles.
In 1980 a retrospective was held at Palazzo Te in Mantova, overseen by Regione Lombardia. The broad exhibition retraced the full arc of the artist's work.
Bonalumi also completed a series of bronze sculptures, the result of projects dating back to the late 60s.
Brussels, Moscow, New York and Singapore are just some of the world capitals to have hosted personal exhibitions dedicated to the artist in his later years of activity.
