Artwork by Franco Angeli produced in 1985.

  • Technique: varnish on canvas
  • Dimensions : 80 x 60 cm

This work is part of the Angiolino Calestani archive and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It also features in the monographic volume by Franco Gallo, 1980s, 212 pages, published in 1985/7.

War, society, politics, the Rome of the 1950s that was rising from the ashes, these are the elements at the heart of Franco Angeli's work (Rome, 1935-1988) - an eclectic and self-taught artist.

Angeli experiemented with techniques and materials, making him one of the leading figures on the Italian Informal Art scene - one of his inspirations being Alberto Burri - and one of the most active members of the so-called School of Piazza del Popolo, the Italian pop art movement that sprung up in Rome in the sixties, which he joined together with friends and colleagues Mario Schifano and Tano Festa.
