War, society, politics, the Rome of the 1950s that was rising from the ashes, these are the elements at the heart of Franco Angeli's work (Rome, 1935-1988) - an eclectic and self-taught artist.
Angeli experiemented with techniques and materials, making him one of the leading figures on the Italian Informal Art scene - one of his inspirations being Alberto Burri - and one of the most active members of the so-called School of Piazza del Popolo, the Italian pop art movement that sprung up in Rome in the sixties, which he joined together with friends and colleagues Mario Schifano and Tano Festa.
