Samorì, well-known painter, sculptor and engraver, is a leading figure in Italian contemporary art. According to the artist himself, the aim of his painting is to awaken the viewer from two-dimensional slumber.
Samorì, as defined by the art critic Maurizio Bernardelli Curuz, shows the disintegration of the Italian classicist identity and its rigid constructive formalism.
Starting from the meticulous copying of the works of great masters, especially from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where the clash between light and shadow dominates, Samorì transforms them and reinterprets them with the troubled spirit of our century. He makes violent interventions, punching, scratching and literally peeling the paint through sudden or meticulous gestures, actions that result in new works that have their roots in the tradition of art history combined with the expression of torment in a contemporary language. From painting on wood or canvas, to affrescoes, the Italian artist also paints on surfaces such as copper and hard stones, integrating their materic peculiarities into his works.
