Kakau Höfke was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Educated in graphic design in Europe, Höfke returned to Rio in 1992, where she worked for a decade in design and advertising agencies. Feeling limited to computer graphic design, she abandoned her career to return to her artistic roots, devoting herself full-time to painting.
She eventually developed an idiosyncratic Pop art style, fusing the fine arts with computer graphics, out of which her colorful palettes and transparencies joyfully celebrating Rio de Janeiro became her trademark. This artwork is exemplary of her style, showing three of the most well-known mountains in Rio, overlapped with Ipanema and Copacabana sidewalks.
Höfke began to receive increasing recognition for her art—she was commissioned for partnerships with Macy's, she decorated the Brazilian house during the 2012 Olympics in London, she illustrated a watch for Romain Gauthier, and she placed as a finalist of the Grand Prix D’Horlogerie de Genève in 2015.
