Silver Yad Pointer for Torah, 1879.
Take home this splendid rare silver Russian Yad dated 1879. Despite being 150 years old, the precious artifact is in splendid condition.
The yad (Hebrew יד, literally "hand"; Yiddish teitel) is a pointer used for public readings of the Sefer Torah. During the reading of the Law in the synagogue, the reader stands on the right side, the "called" in the center and the segan (representative of the congregation) on the left side. The segan uses the yad to point to the text that the reader must read.
Length: 29 cm approx.
