The photographs were taken during a trip taken in March 2019 alongside the Italian coordinators for the support of Afghan women - CISDA. They portray various situations in which Afghan personnel works to help the population.

Isabella Balena

Independent photojournalist for many years, she has worked with some of the leading Italian and foreign magazines. In recent years she has focussed on issues related to contemporary history and social dynamics. She believes that the essence of photography lies in managing to be the "voice and gaze" of a communities that would otherwise be invisible.

Her photographs feature both in public (Museum of Contemporary Photography, MAECI Art Collection, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and private collections (Donata Pizzi Collection and others).

Born in Rimini, she works in Milan.

C.I.S.D.A. e l'Afghanistan

Il Coordinamento Italiano Sostegno Donne Afghane è nato nel 1999 su iniziativa di una serie di associazioni e realtà italiane che da anni lavorano sui temi dei diritti delle donne, contro i fondamentalismi e le guerre.

Le finalità di C.I.S.D.A. si collocano nell’ambito della solidarietà sociale, nel campo della formazione, della promozione della cultura, della tutela dei diritti civili e dei diritti delle donne in Italia ed all’estero.

CISDA si è costituito in onlus nel 2004 e lavora in partnership con alcune associazioni afghane sostenendone i progetti e le scelte politiche:

· RAWA (Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan)
·       HAWCA (Humanitarian Association of Women and Children of Afghanistan)
·       OPAWC (Organization Promoting Afghan Women Capabilities);
·       SAAJS (Social Afghan Association of Justice Seekers);
·       AFCECO (Afghan Child Education and Care Organization).
·       HAMBASTAGI (Partito della solidarietà)
·       MALALAI JOYA (Defense Committee)
