Jurassic Lycoptera Fish Fossil.
Take home this rare specimen of Lycoptera fish found in China, more precisely in the Liaoning province and dated to approximately 150 million years ago.
This breed of fish is now extinct; it lived from the late Jurassic to the Cretaceous eras in modern day China, Korea, Mongolia and Siberia. Numerous fossils have been found, representing a total of sixteen species. Along with the genus Peipiaosteus, Lycoptera has been considered a defining member of the Jehol Biota, a prehistoric ecosystem famous for its feathered dinosaurs, which flourished for 20 million years during the Lower Cretaceous period.
The Jurassic was the second geological period of the Mesozoic era: it takes its name from the Jura chain where the formations developed the most during this time. Also called Giurese or Jura, it is between 215 and 145 million years ago.
