Remo Brindisi, Italian verista painter of the Twentieth Century, was born in Rome in 1918. He first attended the School of Art in Penne, before receiving a scholarship for the Istituto Superiore di Arte of Urbino.

Called up for the army during the Second World War, he moved to Florence where he spent a happy period in the company of artist friends such as Felice Carena, Ardengo Soffici and Ottone Rosai.

In the 40s and 50s, Brindisi took part in almost all the Venice Biennials and the Rome Quadrennials, distinguishing himself for his great political and civil commitment, using Expressionist features in the New Figuration, with clear Informal tendencies.

Brindisi painted some great works with cyclical themes. Many of his paintings deal with social themes, bearing witness a "collective suffering" whose representation gives the works an epic quality.

The cycle "History of Fascism" that he worked on between 1957 and 1962 is a powerful work.

Brindisi also produced two series of large paintings on the characters, themes and historical and political events of the Fascist period. The works speak of inner sensations, traumatic memories.

A lover of art and culture, in 1970 the artist founded the "Alternative Museum" in Ferrara where works of the greatest contemporary artists from every nation are housed.
