Work of art by Salvatore Fiume

Aquatint etching. Its dimensions are 65 x 90 cm.

Edition: 146/199

Salvatore Fiume was an Italian painter, sculptor, architect, writer and set designer. In 1949, he held his first official show in Milan at the Galleria Borromini. In 1953, Life and Time magazines commissioned him to create a series of works portraying an imaginary story of Manhattan and the New York Bay for their New York headquarters which Fiume reinvented as islands of statues.

In 1962, a touring exhibition brought one hundred of Fiume's paintings to various German museums, including those in the cities of Cologne and Regensburg. In 1985, he held a great show of his paintings at Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome.

His works are found in some of the most important museums in the world like the Vatican Museums, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the MoMA in New York, the Puškin in Moscow, and the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan. A commemorative exhibit, "The great retrospective" (207 works), celebrating a decade from his passing was held in 2007-2008 at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Arezzo, Italy.
