Banksy (Dismaland)
Title: Nola Rain (2015)
Size: 29cm x 25 cm
The piece comes with gift receipts from dismaland + stamps and tags.
Banksy created Nola (the city's nickname) to sympathize with the people of New Orleans. The graffiti art piece depicts an innocent young girl who relies on her umbrella for obvious protection against the rain, but discovers that the umbrella itself is the source of the rain.
Dismaland was a temporary art project organised by street artist Banksy in the seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England.
Prepared in secret, the pop-up exhibition at the Tropicana, a disused lido, was "a sinister twist on Disneyland" that opened during the weekend of 21 August 2015 and closed on 27 September 2015, 36 days later.
Banksy described it as a "family theme park unsuitable for children.
About Banksy
Perhaps the most famous figure in street art working today, Banksy is known for urban interventions that demonstrate irreverent wit and a biting political edge. Enhancing his mystique by maintaining an anonymous identity, the artist has modified street signs, illegally printed his own currency, and illicitly hung his own work in the Louvre and the Museum of Modern Art. He often uses spray paint and stencils in his critiques of consumerism, political authority, terrorism, and the status of art and its display.
