The match, played at the Niedersachsenstadion in Hanover on May 13, 1970, ended 1-0 to the home side thanks to Seeler's goal.

Gerhard "Gerd" Müller was a German footballer and sports manager, who played as a striker. Considered the greatest German centre-forward in history, with West Germany he was European champion in 1972 and world champion in 1974, scoring the decisive goals in both finals. With Bayern Munich, where he become the top scorer of all time, he won 4 German championships, 4 national cups, 1 Cup Winners' Cup, 3 European Cups and an Intercontinental Cup. Winner of the Ballon d'Or in 1970 and the Golden Boot in 1970 and 1972, he is one of the most prolific goalscorers in football history, having scored 730 goals in 788 matches, 68 of which with the West Germany national team, in just 62 appearances.
