Fabio Cannavaro (Napoli, 13 settembre 1973) is an Italian football manager and former player who played as a defender. Regarded as one of the greatest defenders of his generation, if not one of the best in football history, in 2006 he was awarded the Ballon d'Or (fifth Italian winner of the award, after native Omar Sívori, Gianni Rivera, Paolo Rossi and Roberto Baggio) and was elected FIFA World Player of the Year. In 2014 he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame. In 2006 he was world champion with the Italian national team, for which he held the record for appearances (136) and was the captain from 2002 to 2010; he is also the second most capped player for the national team.
