Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida who popularized the Southern rock genre with songs like, “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird”. The band released five studio albums and one live album before taking a break after the plane crash that resulted in the death of band members, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines. Almost 10 years later in 1987, the band reformed for a reunion tour with Ronnie Van Zant’s brother, Johnny Van Zant as the lead vocalist. In 2006, Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
