"Piano in the Background" LP by Duke Ellington, 1962.
Vintage record preserved in its original sleeve. This 33 rpm is still in working order.
Duke Ellington is considered one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, impossible to label with just one genre. He has influenced and continues to influence generations of jazz musicians, from the orchestras of Woody Herman and Charlie Barnet to Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus, along with the more underground avant-garde Sun Ra and Archie Shepp. The African exile Dollar Brand, Muhal Richard Abrams and Anthony Davis have also credited the Duke.
In 1943 Ellington began to hold a concert every year at Carnegie Hall (1943-1948), the temple of European-inspired music and at each concert he would present a new composition in the form of a wide-ranging suite.
