This limited edition bas-relief has now become practically unobtainable: two figures are portrayed performing elegant dance movements against a desert background. They recall the greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, where the nymph, was running away from Apollo and she became a laurel oak.
One of the Dalì’s subject looks like a tree, with branches on the leg and bark as skin. The dance is a performative art, very important in all the cultures; as other arts, it represented a point of reference for Dalì’s creativity.
Dalí, Salvador. - Catalan painter (Figueras 1904 - therein 1989). One of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, after a brief interlude in the surrealist group he was excluded due to his sympathies for right-wing regimes. In Dalí surrealism took on an individualistic, ironic and provocative characteristic (the artist was famed for his advertising and scandalous stunts and autobiographical essays such as Le journal d'un génie, 1964). Among his best known works: Femme dormant dans un paysage (1931, Venice, Fond. P. Guggenheim); La persistance de la mémoire (1931, New York, Mus. Of modern art).
