Cresciuto nelle giovanili della Stella Rossa, nel 2016 viene acquistato dal Benfica con il quale vince due campionati portoghesi, una Coppa di Lega, una Coppa del Portogallo e una Supercoppa del Portogallo. Nell'estate del 2017 passa all'Eintracht Francoforte e alla prima stagione vince la Coppa di Germania. In due stagioni attira l'attenzione del Real Madrid che lo acquista nel 2019; a Madrid vince due campionati, due Supercoppe spagnole e una UEFA Champions League, con nel mezzo sei mesi di prestito di nuovo all'Eintracht. A luglio 2022 passa alla Fiorentina prima di approdare al Milan nell'estate 2023.
