This lithograph is part of a set that Joan Miró produced in 1975 for the book "Maravillas con variaciones acrósticas en el jardín de Miró" (Wonders with Acrostic Variations in the Garden of Miró). It also featured poems by Rafael Alberti dedicated to the painter.
Catalan painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Miró was deeply connected to his land: the life of the peasants, their everyday objects, folk art, the lights and colors of the Mediterranean are some of his sources of inspiration. Later, his stays in Paris and frequent encounters with Picasso as well as leading figures in Dadaism and Surrealism determined his style and artistic choices.
The sculptures, cast in bronze and sometimes colored, give voice to the artist's more playful vein, created from found objects and materials (Girl Escaping, 1968). Others, made from a variety of materials, are the three-dimensional translation of symbols, signs, memories of the natural world that have always featured heavily in his imaginative paintings.
