On 25 February 2019, the Gazzetta dello Sport celebrated Gianluca Vialli with the "Il bello del calcio" award, established in memory of Giacinto Facchetti, adding his name to a long line of winners considered to be important figures in terms of technical ability and humanity such as Paolo Maldini, Cesare Prandelli, Michael Platini, Eric Abidal, Francesco Totti, Roberto Donadoni, Giancarlo Antognoni, Andrea Pirlo and Javier Zanetti.
The president of RCS Urbano Cairo presented the award of copy number 1 to him, a stylized drawing by the artist Riccardo Guasco, depicting the player in a blue shirt, and a check to be donated to charity.
The motivation for the award stated: "Vialli bravely said that champions are superhuman but fragile too, and this is maybe why people admire them even more".
