Central African Republic, Obo, November 2019: Majorettes of Obo parade through the streets of the town to mark the national holiday. The town of Obo is under siege by the militias of the Union for Peace in Central Africa (UPC), a formation belonging to the Seleka group, and, for over 10 years, by the Lord's Resistance Army, an extremist Christian rebel formation, also called the Army of the Lord or the Ten Commandments. If you try to escape the city, you die. If you try to work the fields, you die or disappear into thin air. Kidnappings, disappearances, torture and attacks on the civilian population are very frequent. The only way to reach Obo is onboard a small Unhas twin-engine.
