"Emily Dickinson's herbarium" by Annie Leibovitz, realized in 2010 and conserved at Houghton Library, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Widely considered as one of the greatest portrait artists of her time, Annie Leibovitz has created some of the most iconic images of the past 40 years.

As well as her acclaimed portraits, she has also started training her expert eye on objects, particularly the objects of deceased icons, such as this piece that depicts a page from the Emily Dickinson's botanical collection.

These poetic still lifes are like portraits in many ways, using the object as a metaphor for the life and work of the individual. In this case, the botanical press confirms the interest in Emily Dickinson's intrest for the natural world, while she shunned attention and success, publishing very few of her poems during her lifetime and living for most of her life as a recluse.

Annie Leibovitz's works have been exhibited worldwide, including the National Portrait Gallery, the Brooklyn Museum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
