A pupil of Gustav Klimt, Schiele was one of the major figurative artists of the early twentieth century, as well as an leading figure in early Viennese Expressionism together with Oskar Kokoschka. Egon Schiele's talent became clear from a young age but life is surrounded by an aura of mystery and he died at the young age of 28. Despite his short life, his body of works is impressive, including about 340 paintings and 2800 watercolors and drawings.
