Drawing by Tono Zancanaro.

  • Drawing on paper
  • Dimensions: 45x35 cm
  • Year: 1959

Antonio Zancanaro (1906 - 1985), better known as Tono, devoted himself to painting from 1932. He had some important experiences in Florence where he met O. Rosai and, in Padua and Milan, where he came into contact with the anti-fascist environment. His research was carried out in the realism that often acquired surreal tones (particularly in the grotesque deformations of the satirical-political series of the "Gibbo", 1942-49).

Women played an important part in the human and artistic life of Tono Zancanaro. The female protagonists of his work are not only ethereal figures to be admired for the beauty of their forms but they are first and foremost human beings. This female figure remained over the course of his fifty years of artistic activity and, beyond its thematic and stylistic differentiations, the basic uniformity continued so that whether it's oil painting, pastels or ink, the Paduan master's work is unmistakable and incomparable to any other artist.
