Born in Montecastello di Vibio on September 2 1952, Bruno Ceccobelli attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he studied under Toti Scialoja, learning the theory and practice of abstraction.
According to art criticGramiccia, Ceccobelli's art, which in some respects recalls that of fellow Italian Alberto Burri and which recalls certain characteristics of Arte Povera, fits into the context of the more general "return to painting" that distinguishes his generation of artists (particularly the Transavantgarde movement) ". However, through the study of theosophy, alchemy and oriental philosophies, Ceccobelli reached a real spiritual and sacral symbolism, which differentiated from the currents mentioned above.
In 1975 he exhibited for the first time in a group show in the Palazzo Comunale in Albach, Austria and, two years later, he held his first solo show at the Galleria Spazio Alternativo in Rome, where he exhibited works of a conceptual nature, and participated in two group exhibitions at La Stanza, an independent space self-managed by artists.
In later years he received numerous international invitations, exhibiting in 1979 at the Festival of Italian Culture in Belgrade and, subsequently, in several group exhibitions in France, Germany and Croatia. At Yvon Lambert in Paris he exhibited Morpheus, "a work comprising different elements brought together by a symbolic link".
