The British Bulldog is a recognized molosser type and medium size breed native to England.
It was originally bred (in the early nineteenth century) as a dog for fighting bulls; for over a hundred years, selection has been made with character in midn and today's British bulldog is to all intents and purposes a companion dog.
Its appearance is very unusual. Fom the front it is low on the limbs, broad, with forelegs that are short but powerful and muscular, slightly angled outwards with the curvature depending solely on the highly developed muscle mass; the hind should be narrower, with longer limbs than the front, giving the British bulldog its characteristic line called the "carp back" (or roach back); this difference in width from front to back gives the dog a characteristic "pear" shape when seen from above.
