About the artist
Mimmo Rotella was an Italian artist, considered one of the leading figures on the art scene of the second half of the twentieth century. A star of Nouveau Réalisme and international Pop Art, Rotella carried out assemblages and ready-made works with objects purchased from second-hand dealers (bottle caps, ropes, wicker baskets and pieces of fabric).
His reference to everyday objects brought him closer to the contemporary practices of British and American Pop Art.
Parallel to his photographic transfer technique, he created what he called artypos: in the printers he wounld select the print proofs of posters - sheets characterized by the random overlapping of images, otherwise desitined for pulp - to apply to his canvases.
