Helios is the Ancient Greek (pre-Olimpic) Sun God. Bringing light to the world, he represented the ethical principle of a conscious struggle against darkness. His colors are associated with yellow, white and red - wearing a billowing white cloak, he appears on a shining light chariot (yellow) of four fire-breathing winged horses (red). Not by coincidence, this solar symbolism was also found in the emperor's clothes. Rays of the sun influence the earth and fire the hearth that transfers divine energy to a material world. The painting symbolizes inspiration, enlightening and triumph.

The Cause

Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, the Collaborating for a Cure Dinner and Auction benefits the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF), a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to curing and preventing cancer. The SWCRF is a pioneer in cancer research, and its mission is to eradicate cancer by funding cutting-edge research that identifies and corrects abnormal gene function that causes cancer. This research is the basis for developing minimally toxic treatments for patients.

Through the Foundation’s collaborative group of world-class scientists, the Institute Without Walls, investigators share information and tools to speed up the pace of cancer research. More than 40 years ago, the SWCRF pioneered the concept of transparent collaboration between cancer scientists across not only research institutes, but also across cancer types. To receive funding from the SWCRF, cancer investigators must be willing to share their findings prior to being published so their SWCRF colleagues can benefit from shared knowledge in the quest for a cure.

Since 1976, the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation has awarded approximately $90 million to support the work of more than 200 researchers around the globe.
