Alfio Caruso is an Italian writer.
Following his collaboration with the newspaper La Sicilia, in 1972 Caruso was hired by Piero Ottone at Corriere della Sera. In 1974 he accepted Indro Montanelli's invitation to become the youngest of the 54 founders of Il Giornale newspaper. In the eighties he returned to worked at Corriere and Gazzetta dello Sport (where he was reunited with his first teacher, Candido Cannavò), as Editor-in-Chief and Vice-Director respectively.
In 1995 he was appointed Co-Director of Il Messaggero by Giulio Anselmi, and in 1996 he become Editorial Director of the Nazione - Resto del Carlino - Giorno group. In 2000 he founded and became director of Og newspaper, which lasted just one month. He later collaborated with L'Espresso, La Stampa and Il Corriere della Sera. In 2011 he resigned from the Order of Journalists.
Alongside his journalistic career, he has enjoyed a literary career, writing thrillers and essays on Italian history and the mafia. He has published his works with Sei, Feltrinelli, Leonardo, Rizzoli, Longanesi, Salani, Einaudi and Neri Pozza.
