Established in 2015 as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, SPN is dedicated to wildlife conservation and environmental education, carrying out its core mission in two ways: By supporting community-based wildlife conservation efforts in Africa and Asia. And by providing science-based environmental education programs to schools around the world.
For our international conservation program we have set up 3 Species Projects that outline our conservation goals for each species in conjunction with conservation sites to help us protect one or more of these species groups. Each site pulls together many specialized grassroots organizations to create a focused, long term conservation effort. While we currently assist in funding these sites, we aim to make them self financing in the long run through the promotion of tourism. By assisting them in their move towards self-reliance, we guarantee the sustainability of these projects long after we've gone.
For our international education programs, we strive to remove barriers by leveraging resources within in the United States that can then be used to build capacity for our on-the-ground conservation partner organizations in Africa and Asia. We believe that facilitating community-based education programs such as this is essential to the long-term viability of any community-based conservation effort. Removing barriers, that too frequently limit educational opportunities in developing nations, also empowers local communities to independently and effectively advocate on their own behalf.
