In 1955 Paolo and Ileana De Ferrari, heirs of a Genoa noble family, discovered the Elba Island Biodola beach for the first time. It was love at first sight - with crystal-clear water and fine sand, the delicate flowering blossoms on the sand dunes and the intense scent of mastic trees and cork oaks.
This is exactly where Paolo De Ferrari had the idea of building up a first-class hotel to host guests from all over the world in pursuit of a relaxing haven.
De Ferrari family and the staff have always embraced the philosophy of treating their guests with discretion and loving care, from the first to the last day of their stay at Elba Island. This is an imperative for the Hermitage Hotel, whose guests are at the centre of everything they do.
