Captain of the Italian National and the Juventus team Gigi Buffon, is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all times: in 2004 he entered the FIFA 100, a list of 125 greatest living players, in 2006 FIFA awarded him as best goalkeeper worldwide and classified second in the Golden Ball, after the fellow italian Fabio Cannavaro, and again 2007, the forth time after 2003, 2004, and 2006, he was considered the best active goalie according to the IFFHS, an organization that specializes in statics regarding football history, which recently awarded him again the "Goalie of the Year" title.
Always involved in doing good deeds, together with wife Alena Seredova support the activities of Sos Villaggi dei Bambini, an organization involved in welcoming children and in the promotion of abandonment preventative programs in Italy and 132 other countries in the world In 2008 for example he entered the field in Marina di Carrara for a benefit match of beach soccer in order to support this onlus. In 2011 he was an exceptional godfather for a large solidarity event in Mantova where the teams Nazionale Cantanti and the Mantova All Star Team faced each other to give support. In december 2012 he participated at the Derby of Mole and has donated his armband in order to raise funds for the association.
In March 2013 instead the captain wore an important and demanding pair of fire red shoes to raise awareness of the battle against violence towards women, together with Matteo Marzotto e Marco Bocci. The photo that showed him in his unusual outfit was published on the cover on the magazine Chi from the March 8th issue, celebrating Womans Day.
Gigi decided to support Sermig of Torino, an association involved in the battle against hunger through acts of justice and development.
