The Prize

Enjoy a visit for two people to Pietro Mennea's studio where many of his sporting memorabilia is conserved. Later, enjoy dinner for two at the “Giulio Onesti” Olympic Training Center in Acqua Acetosa with Manuela Mennea and some members of the Italian Athletics Federation, Athletica Vaticana, Fiamme Gialle, Fidal Lazio and Cortile dei Gentili.

The auction winner will also receive the jersey that Pietro Mennea wore at the Stadio Olimpico for the University World Games in 1975.

Born in Barletta on June 28, 1952, Pietro Mennea was Olympic champion of the 200 meters at Moscow 1980 and world record holder of the discipline from 1979 to 1996, setting the European record that still stands. From 1979 to 2018 he also held the Italian record over 100 meters with a time of 10.01, later beaten by Filippo Tortu.

Mennea is the only 200-meter runner in history to have reached four consecutive Olympic finals, from 1972 to 1984. In recognition of his sporting career, he was awarded the Olympic order in 1997 and inducted into the FIDAL Hall of Fame.
