Neuromuscular disorders are heterogeneous, mostly degenerative, and can manifest at any stage of life. They can cause severe physical disabilities, affecting movement, breathing, communication, swallowing, and cardiac function. These diseases have an impact on the entire family unit, requiring continuous specialized care over time.

Nowadays research is a beacon of hope for over 60,000 people in Italy, with neuromuscular diseases.

The NeMO Centers network is committed - with 84 active clinical trials - to providing new energy in the field of clinical research on these pathologies, thanks to the large number and proximity of the patients it serves and the synergy with international networks.

The objective of research - on diseases such as ALS, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Myotonic Dystrophies, etc. - is to understand the pathology and its evolution from every functional aspect, in order to identify useful indicators for monitoring and predicting the clinical behavior of the disease over time. Research areas include nutrition, respiration, vision, biomarkers, disease registries, as well as psychological aspects and quality of life.

To activate new projects, collaborations with advanced analysis laboratories, and access to new technologies, it is essential to value young NeMO researchers with dedicated work grants.
