In Italy, almost 1.4 million children live in absolute poverty. There are socio-economic inequalities throughout the territory that directly affect the health of children, penalising those who would most need services for care, prevention and promotion of health and psycho-physical well-being.

Save the Children's interventions have for years been implemented in areas and neighbourhoods of Italian cities most deprived of services for children. In these areas, a series of ad hoc interventions have been activated and from 2014 to date 26 Points of Light have been opened, through the Illuminiamo il Futuro campaign, with the aim of combating educational poverty and the psycho-physical discomfort of minors.

These are free daily spaces with high educational intensity, in 20 Italian cities and 15 regions (Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, Apulia, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Veneto).
To date, the Punti Luce have accompanied more than 46,700 girls, children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17 on their path to learning, experimenting, developing and allowing their abilities, talents and aspirations to flourish freely, thanks also to more than 4,000 educational endowments for particularly difficult cases, identified in a network with local institutions.
