Giulia Iacolutti (1985) visual artist, mainly works on relational art projects related to identity and gender issues, using photography as well as a variety of other languages and media (video, audio, embroidery, performance). Her work has been exhibited internationally and is part of both public collections such as Mufoco, Craf, Lucchese Photographic Archive, and private collections including the Donata Pizzi Collection.
Nominated in 2018 for the Foam Paul Huf Award, in 2021 she won the Paolo Cardazzo prize for contemporary art ex-aequo. In 2020 she won the open call Refocus of MIBACT, MUFOCO and Triennale Milano with Inscape, exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 2021; she recently won the “Italia Inclusiva” call for proposals issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2019 her first book Casa Azul was released, which recounts the corporal practices of five trans women in the male prison of Mexico City. The book, published by The (M) edition (Paris) and studiofaganel, won the Marco Bastianelli Award 2020, as best artist's book and also received an honorable mention at the Photobook Maribor Award 2020. The book appears in several collections: the Library of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Artphilein Library (Lugano), Folio- Centro de la Imagen (Mexico City) and in the Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche Collection at the San Telmo Museum (Spain). The same project was recently exhibited in the Project Room of the PAC in Milan, in a solo exhibition curated by Giulia Zorzi and in October 2022 was exhibited at the Kunst Merano Arte in an exhibition curated by Judith Waldmann.
