S.O.S. San Marco Zingonia Onlus

The S.O.S. association (Solidarity in Oncology San Marco-Zingonia) was set up in October 2013 by a group of doctors and medical staff at the Policlinico San Marco, all engaged in the fight against cancer at different levels.

The association's mission is to reconcile medical excellence with the quality of care and comfort for the sick and their families.
On the one hand the association is committed to supporting and encouraging scientific research in the oncology field, while on the other hand it champions the humanization of treatments, i.e. creating psycho-social support schemes that put the patient at the center of a ″global″ care network that does not end with medical, surgical and radiotherapy therapies but really takes into account the person and his or her needs, not just medical but also psychological, emotional, relational and
interpersonal, in order to promote the patient's well-being and quality of life in the various phases of care (diagnosis, treatment and follow up).

Getting ill with cancer is a traumatic event that affects all aspects (the psychological sphere, individual and spiritual values, interpersonal and social relationships), not just the physical side. Greater understanding of what the person experiences and what impact the disease and the consequent therapies has on life is fundamental to offering patients the necessary support and helping them to be better equipped to face this delicate phase of life and to manage side effects of therapies.
